One Big Story

Recently, twenty students and young adults took part in our College and Career Ministry annual retreat where we stayed in a giant lodge outside Moraine State Park in Slippery Rock, PA.

Over the course of a weekend, we studied the one BIG story of the Bible and traced major themes that point to Jesus from Genesis to Revelation.

Sessions during the retreat included "Bible Basics", "The Whole Bible from a Birdseye View", and "Making Sense of the Old Testament" among others.

Beyond these teaching times, the group also roamed the park together, played horseshoes, sang some favorite praise songs led by Chris Surface, and ate a lot of good food together.

Here are thoughts of reflection from some of those who attended the retreat this year:

The weekend provided me with rich insights into seeing the Bible as a complete and perfectly unified text. I also came to understand my hope as a Christian in the Resurrection in a way that I never had previously.

God revealed many things on this incredible retreat to me, chief among them being that every book and story in the Bible has an important connection to Christ. I now have a better idea of how I should approach different genres in the Old and New Testaments, which will undoubtedly help me understand Scripture and ultimately grow in my walk with Christ.

During our weekend retreat, God really reminded me of the value of being a family in the body of Christ. It was really great to relax and get to know each other and feel at ease with each other. I really was challenged by the lessons on how to read and study the Old and New Testaments, it was a fresh new perspective.

The one big takeaway for me was that there is always so much more to learn about God than you think that you know.

Community group weekend was an incredible experience. God really showed me what it was like to have friends that love and accept you. I learned a lot about how to navigate the Old Testament in a way that brings an even brighter light of understanding to the New Testament. The biggest takeaway for me was truly feeling a new sense of blessing for all God has put into my life.

As a new believer, I learned much on what the Bible means and God's big plan. The Bible is the story of God's big plan and that we are continuing part of that story. God shows His everlasting love for us by His Son Jesus Christ who died for us because it all began and ended with Him.

Maricris Pangilinan

I learned that the primary purpose in every story, every figure, and every detail in the Bible is to point to Christ.

God's big story of making life with him availble to us through the life and work of his Son Jesus is such great news. We had a great time at our second annual College and Career Retreat meditating on this great story together and look forward to more opportunities like this in the future.

If you are a college student or young professional in the Wheeling area, we would love for you to join us. You can join our Ministry Facebook Group or  Contact us at the church office for more information.

Please continue to pray for the members of our College and Career ministry as they take what they've learned during the retreat and apply it to their lives and their time in the Word each day.

If you are interested in learning more about the one BIG story, I would highly recommend reading one of these books:
