Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”  Genesis 32:26

Jacob was journeying through the desert on his way to meet his brother, Esau.  His family crossed a stream and began setting up camp, but Jacob stayed behind.

It was dark and Jacob was all alone.  Suddenly Jacob found himself in a wrestling match with an angelic being.  The contest raged all night long.

Jacob refused to yield and refused to let go.  Even when the angel asked to be released, Jacob refused.  Why?  Because Jacob wanted a blessing! 

What a great picture of a tenacious faith!

Today we live in a world that’s dominated by a “drive through” mentality.  Even when it comes to living out our faith, we expect things to happen now—without having to spend any of our time and without any real effort on our part.  But that’s not how genuine faith works.

Jesus challenged us not only to pray, but to pray persistently.

Paul challenged us to run the race of faith and to press on toward the goal God has set before us.

Paul also said his greatest desire was to take hold of the God-given call in his life—to seize it with all his might and to devote himself to seeing it through.

So you see, genuine faith is a tenacious faith.  How tenacious is yours?
