The variety of methods listed below serves a single purpose: to work those truths so deeply into our hearts that they become our reflexive response to life. When we face trials, we won't have to stop and think, "Wht does the Bible say about this?" because we'll already know, because the catechism has trained our minds and hearts.

Chose the methods that fit your life stage and learning style.

Families with Young Children:
  • Mealtime Catechism - ask one catechism question before or after dinner. Another fun option is to go around the table with each family member saying one word of the answer. Celebrate correct answers!
  • Bedtime Catechism Routine - parents ask one catechism question each night as part of the bedtime routine. Each time the child answers correctly they add a sticker to a chart. When a predetermined # of stickers is achieved celebrate with a special treat or privilege.
  • Car Ride Catechism - One the way to school or church, practice the week's question. Make it a game: "Can we say it three times before we get to school?"
  • Family Catechism Wall - Create a poster or chalkboard wall in a central location. Write the current question and answer where everyone sees it daily. Decorate the poster/chalkboard together each with with a new question and answer.
Older Children:
  • Catechism Art Journal - give each child a notebook to illustrate each quetion. As an example, for this week's question #4, they might draw the Bible with arrows pointing to the Old Testament and the New Testament, or create a picture of what "divine inspiration" might look like. On the same page as the drawing, they might write a sentence about why it is important that the Bible is without mistakes.
  • Catechism Memory Chains - Write each word of the answer on a construction paper link. Children connect links to form a chain as they learn the answer. Display the chains in their rooms as visual reminders. Add new chain each week for each new question.

Teens:

  • Social Media Challenge -
    • Create Instagram or YouTube videos explaining the catechism to their generation.
    • Create a "60 Second Theology" series of posts.
    • Use memes, graphics, or short explanatory videos.
  • Memorization Partners - pair up with a friend or adult mentor. Text one another regularly asking question and answer back and forth. Meet to discuss application of truth.
  • Catechism in Culture Analysis - Watch movies, read books, or analyze song lyrics through the lens of catechism questions. Consider: How does this movie show people living as if the Bible isn't their rule for faith and practice?
College & Career
  • Discussion Group - Regular gatherings in homes or coffee shops to discuss application and truths contained in the questions and answers.
  • Catechism Book Clug - read books that expand on catechism themes. For example, for question 4, read a book on biblical authority, inspiration, or hermeneutics. Discuss over meals or coffee, etc.
  • Text Chain - daily or weekly group text with the question and everyone respponds with how they saw the truth of the answer play out that week.
Mid-Life Adults
  • Catechism and Current Events - use news, cultural issues, or workplace scenarios as case studies: "Who does our catechism question speak to this week's headlines?" Practice applying biblical truth to complex situations.
  • Memorization through Writing - Handwrite the question and answer daily for a week. Journal about what new insight emerges each day.
Couple's Catechism
  • Married couples commit to reviewing catechism together.
  • Pray together using catechism truths.
  • Discuss how these truths shape their marriages.
Senoir Adults
  • Mentoring Partnerships - pair with a younger church member and meet regularly to discuss catechism and share life experiences.
  • Prayer Ministry Focus - use catechism as a prayer guide for the church. Each week, pray specifically that the congregation would grasp and live the current truth.
  • Handwritten Catechism Cards - write cateechism questions on cards and mail them to family members. Include a personal note about why this truth matters.
