Man has a mission.

A man is supposed to spend his life doing something worthwhile. Whatever his good mission looks like, it means that he poured his life out doing something practical that added to the lives of his people, and that ultimately brought God glory.

Man has a body that is unique in comparison to a woman.

Many in our culture hate this truth, but it is God’s design. God built men to have tougher bodies and even a mindset more suited to the stresses of leadership or danger. This ties into a man’s mission.

Rather than apologize, let’s embrace and fulfill our role honorably.

Man is optimized for leadership.

Genesis gives insight into man’s design (Gen 1:26-31; 2:15-25). Man was created first, the mission was given to Adam first, and accountability for the fall of man started with Adam. Man thinks towards solutions, efficiency, and winning; to see the big picture, to make practical judgment calls, and to lead with focus.

Man is optimized for taking dominion.

We conquer, bring chaos into order, and stockpile the resources that women use to create beauty. Taking dominion is only accomplished when men and women work together, but a man is made to take the initiative into the unknown.

Man is made to fight honorably.

Any threat to a man’s family, church, or society, be it physical, ideological, or spiritual, is a threat which a man is made to fight. That leaves the questions of how to fight wisely and appropriately such that God is honored and our people are protected; those are topics perhaps for another time.

This at least is a starting point for young men who don’t understand what a man is, why maleness matters, or what manliness is for.

Unsurprisingly, God’s word calls men to deeper glory than any voice in our culture can.
