This sermon speaks to people who:
  • feel spiritually distracted or pulled toward lesser things
  • want to finish the Christian life faithfully but know they are prone to drift
  • struggle with temptation, distraction, comparison, or spiritual dryness
  • need to be reminded that God’s promises are meant to be trusted, prayed, and experienced
  • wrestle with the fear of man and need the freedom that comes from fearing God
  • long for renewed spiritual appetite and fresh life in God’s Word
  • need encouragement that finishing well depends on God’s grace, not their own grip on Him

Series Walking in the Word
Big Idea Finishing well requires God’s preserving grace to turn our eyes from what is worthless, anchor us in His promises, protect our testimony, and revive our hearts with true spiritual life.
Summary

Pastor Darrin continues through Psalm 119:33–40 by focusing on the final four prayers of the stanza. The psalmist understands that believers do not usually abandon the Lord all at once; more often, they drift. Psalm 119 teaches us to fight that drift through dependent prayer: “Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things,” “Confirm to your servant your promise,” “Turn away the reproach that I dread,” and “In your righteousness, give me life.” This sermon reminds us that the Christian who finishes well does so because God faithfully preserves His people to the end.
